More of July's New Apps & Upgrades for Your Toolkit

In this issue we look at: Dynamsoft Corp., Active Up SPRL, Telerik Inc., Ounce Labs Inc.

Dynamsoft Corp.:
Issue Tracking Anywhere 3.0

This Web-based collaboration and bug-tracking system for software projects is designed to keep developers and QA testers -- especially those who work from different locations -- connected and organized during debugging.

Dynamsoft says the tool is customizable and uses role-based workflows to organize issues that need tracking. There's also a query feature that allows team members to search issues. The 3.0 version adds project security by allowing managers to define which team members have access to which issue databases.

The new version also improves collaboration though an automatic e-mail notification feature to keep team members up to date on issue status. The collaboration functionality also allows end users or other authorized people to submit issues and check the status of bug fixes online, the company says. The cost is $99 per user. http://dynamsoft.com

Active Up SPRL:
ActiveUp.RTF 3.0

For the 3.0 release of Active Up's document generation and conversion tool, the company ported the source code from C++ to managed C# and added several new features, including additional conversion options and converted tags, as well as a new sample app, the company says.

ActiveUp.RTF is designed to allow Windows developers to switch documents back and forth between RTF and HTML formats in their apps. RTF documents also can be converted to XHTML, the company says.

The tool also enables the creation of customizable HTML input templates, from which RTF documents can be made later for printing or viewing on any Windows computer. Active Up envisions the product as a way for enterprises to create invoices and other business documents that can be accessed from and edited on any computer. A single-developer license is $299. http://activeup.com

Telerik Inc.:
RadEditor for MOSS

This text editor tool for ASP.NET is now shipping with a new wrapper that allows developers to use RadEditor within Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 as an alternative to the server's default text editor, Telerik says.

In addition to Internet Explorer, the RadEditor wrapper also supports the Firefox and Safari browsers, the company says. The latest version of RadEditor adds several new desktop-style word-processing features including an in-line spellchecker and find-and-replace function, as well as AJAX-based document and media dialogs, the company says.

Telerik bills the tool as robust enough for enterprise applications tied to large file directories, thanks in part to dynamic, AJAX-based file browser dialogs for loading files and folders.

Developers can use RadEditor's ToolsFile feature to enable or disable advanced features, such as Windows-style draggable and floatable toolbars.
The cost of the RadEditor tool is $349 per developer. http://telerik.com

Ounce Labs Inc.:
Ounce 5.0

The 5.0 release of Ounce Labs' suite of security tools is aimed at helping enterprises reduce the risk of costly data breaches by analyzing and identifying potential security vulnerabilities in both internally developed software and commercial applications, the company says.

Ounce Labs says the latest version of the tool now supports key security standards and specifications including the Payment Card Industry's Data Security Standard, Open Web Application Security Project and the Common Weakness Enumeration specification published by Mitre Corp.

The 5.0 release of Ounce Labs' security suite now features a color-coded threat matrix-seen here in the upper right-hand corner of the window-that helps developers hone in on the most pressing security threats first.
Other enhancements are pattern-based semantic analysis and "more granular vulnerability analysis," which together allow enterprises to focus their security-hardening efforts on the app vulnerabilities most likely to allow a serious breach, the company says. Ounce Labs says the latest release also improves support for developers working on the .NET 2.0 Framework. An annual license costs $1,500 per seat. http://ouncelabs.com
