Tech-Ed: Telerik To Offer Free .NET Decompiler, App Profiling Tools

The .NET tools provider continues to expand its JustCode write-test-optimization portfolio. The latest offerings, JustDecompile and JustTrace, are currently available in beta.

Telerik announced a free .NET decompiler and a .NET code optimization tool at the Microsoft Tech-Ed North America conference on Monday.

JustDecompile and JustTrace are scheduled to ship in July as part of the company's Just development portfolio. Currently available in beta, the new tools fill out a write-test-optimization line that consists of the JustCode analysis and refactoring tool and JustMock for unit testing.

JustTrace is an application profiling tool that addresses performance and memory profiling across Web and desktops applications. A standalone tool that integrates with Visual Studio, JustTrace allows developers to kick off a profiling session directly from a Visual Studio project, said Todd Anglin, chief evangelist at Telerik.

"We noticed a lot of tools today require confusing configurations or they run very slowly," Anglin said, adding: "If we do our job right the developer will barely know the tools are there, they just know they are developing faster."

Based on Telerik's JustCode code analysis product, JustDecompile enables "one-click exploration and analysis of compiled .NET Framework-based assemblies," according to a company statement.

"We brought a lot of innovations in JustCode and delivered them in JustDecompile," said Anglin, who also emphasized the tool's improved UI and ability to decompile to both Visual Basic and C#.

Both JustDecompile and JustTrace are standalone tools that work alongside Visual Studio. Shipping versions of the products are expected in Telerik's Q2 release cycle, expected around "mid-summer," according to Anglin. Developers can download the beta of JustTrace here and the beta of JustDecompile here.
